Rev. Sr. Jacinta Akua Kwakyewaa Osei, HDR – a Clothing and Textiles Tutor at St Francis Senior High Technical School, Akim Oda in the Koforidua Diocese has been adjudged the 1st Runner up at the recent Ghana Teacher Prize awards, 2021 which was held on 5th October 2021 at the Eusbett International Conference Centre in Sunyani, Bono Region.

The Best Teacher Award Scheme was introduced in 1995 with the major objective of motivating teachers for higher performance and also to restore the respect the profession should enjoy.

This year, the Ministry of Education through the National Teaching Council ( NTC ) presented Ghana Teacher Prize 2021 with the theme ” Teachers wanted: reclaiming teaching and learning for a human-centred recovery “to commemorate the World Teachers Day held annually on 5th October.

The prize is open to currently working teachers ( both public and private ) who teach children that are in compulsory schooling and teachers on voluntary teaching service in every school at the pre-tertiary level.

Out of the over 30,000 teachers who applied for the 2021 Ghana Teacher Prize, Sr. Jacinta was selected among the top 15 nominees and later, among the top 10.

The awards ceremony was preceded by a 2- day symposium, educational fair and seminars. Applicants were judged on a rigorous set of criteria to identify an extraordinary teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession.

By the grace of God, dint of hard work, selfless service and commitment to duty, Sr Jacinta was adjudged the 1st Runner up ( 2nd ) most outstanding teacher in Ghana, 2021 and was given a VW 4×4 pick up as her prize.

Prior to this award, she was adjudged the 2nd National Best Teacher – Vocational category in 2015 and the 2nd Eastern Regional Best Teacher – Basic Education in 2013.

She is also the Senior Housemistress of St Francis Senior High Technical School – Akim Oda.
