St John the Baptist Parish inaugurates new Grotto to mark golden jubilee

A new Grotto has been inaugurated at the St John the Baptist Parish, Odorkor as part of activities to earmark the golden jubilee celebration of the parish.

The grotto, christened “ Our Lady Seat of Wisdom was consecrated by the Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra on October 19, 2019.

The Archbishop noted that the Grotto will help Parishioners spend time with the Lord, growing in relationship with Christ and love of the Church and journey members through building deeper intimacy with the Lord and greater knowledge of the faith.

Rev Fr Tony Amissah, SVD, Provincial Superior’ Kenya-Tanzania Province present at the ceremony added that, “the grotto shouldn’t serve as a place of prayer for only Parishners of St John the Baptist but to people who have the urge to draw closer to God from the wider community”.

Some Parishioners at the inaugural ceremony explained that the grotto will serve as a “refined place of abode that will draw them closer to Mary and his son”.

The parish started its journey of spreading the Catholic faith in darker and its environs on October, 12 1969. Under the tutelage of Monsignor Jonathan Ankrah, the foundation stone for a new church building was laid on June 25, 2006 and was eventually raised to the status of a Parish by Most Rev. Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, the then Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, on March 5, 2016.
