Directives for the Holy Week Celebration Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

In a formal communication signed by the metropolitan Arch Bishop of Accra; Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Accra Arch Diocese has issued concrete measures on the celebration of this year’s Holy week due to the novel corona virus outbreak.

Details from the letter reveal that all celebrations during the holy week should last for two hours. The commemoration of the triumphant entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) should be without public procession and dramatization of the passion of Christ. The Holy Thursday (the mass of the last supper) shall be without washing of feet and procession.

The veneration of the cross on Good Friday shall be limited solely to the celebrant and there will also be no Easter picnic on Easter Monday.

These initiatives are labeled to protect the church against the wide spread of the virus and to adhere to the set protocols.
