DEPSOCOM Accra Holds Training Session for Staff

The Department of Social Communications (DEPSOCOM) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has held a training and capacity building session for its staff on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

Members present were taken through News Reporting and Production of shows.

The first training session of the year for the staff was held at the department’s headquarters in Accra.

The resource person for the training session, Mr. Ekow Boakye took the team through a detailed and an interactive session.

He stressed on the need for members to avoid misleading headlines which serves as bait for readers or listeners.

He added that in the practice of good journalism, headlines are supposed to summarise the content of the story.

“A headline summarises the whole story. You don’t have to use a headline that is misleading and does not give a clear picture of what the story tells. As journalists we have to try to avoid such in news writing. You don’t want to be issuing rejoinders every week as a media house” he said.

The Acting Executive Producer of Radio Angelus, the radio arm of DEPSOCOM Accra, Mr. Emmanuel Kumatse expressed gratitude to the Director of DEPSOCOM Accra, Very Rev. Fr. Blaise Bobi-Attachie for the support to ensure that the training became a success. He challenged all participants to put into practice the skills impacted for the growth of the communication arm of the Archdiocese and the greater work of God.
