Create better working conditions that empower workers – Catholic Professional Guilds

PRESS RELEASE BY THE CATHOLIC PROFESSIONAL GUILDS OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF ACCRA ON THE OCCASION OF MAY DAY

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters …

Today marks the joint celebration of International Workers’ Day and the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

It is an opportunity to appreciate the role of workers in our world and renew our commitment to ensuring there is dignity in work.

In 1955, Pope Pius XII also established the day as the Feast of St Joseph the Worker in order to reflect Joseph’s status as a model for and patron of workers. The Church highlights, especially, Joseph’s patience, persistence, courage, and hard work.

The Catholic Professionals’ Guilds celebrates all workers especially Catholic Professionals in every sphere of our National endeavour for their hard work and relentless efforts at building our Nation.

At this time we especially applaud all Health Professionals for their exceptional show of bravery in this fight against the COVID 19 virus. We pray for God’s continued protection as you continue to do your best to keep us safe.

We use this day to call on all employers, public and private, to create better working conditions that empower workers to give of their best as well as promotes the dignity of workers.

We also encourage all workers, especially catholic workers, to continuously apply their professional ethics and faith values in their work. Work as unto the Lord not as unto men.

Finally, on behalf of the leadership of the various Professionals’ Guilds, I wish all of us a happy feast day and a big ayekoo for the great work we are doing.

Let’s continue to strive to live out our faith wherever we find ourselves putting God and Country first.
