The date for the ordination and installation of the new Catholic Bishop of Wiawso will be held on Friday 21st April 2023, when the Church commemorates the memorial of Saint Anselm of Canterbury, Bishop, Doctor.

This was contained in a communication sighted by Radio Angelus news, dated 8th February 2023, and signed by Rev. Fr. Dominic Jewel Ackah (Apex Committee Chairperson).

It will be recalled that on 26th January 2023, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana Most Reverend Henryk Mieczyslaw Jagodzinski, announced the appointment of Rev. Monsignor Samuel Nkuah Boateng by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as the new Bishop of the Wiawso Diocese, thereby making Most Rev. Joseph Francis Kweku Essien, Bishop Emeritus of the Wiawso Diocese.

The Catholic Diocese of Wiawso was created on 30th December 1999. It was however inaugurated on 25th March 2000 with its first and current bishop as Most Rev. Joseph Francis Kweku Essien. He was ordained and installed as a Bishop for the newly created Wiawso Diocese on the same day of the inauguration of the Diocese by Most Rev. Dominic Kojo Andoh, the then Archbishop of Accra and now Peter Cardinal Kwadwo Appiah Turkson who was then the Archbishop of Cape Coast Archdiocese.
