Ashongman: 25th anniversary of St. Mark Catholic Church launched

St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashongman Estates, Accra, has launched its 25 years of existence with tributes pouring out to great men and women whose courage and goodwill led to the establishment of the church in 1995.

Mr. Boniface Dakorah, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, together with the Priest-in-charge of the church, Rev. Fr. Francis Oteng-Bawuah and the members of the Pastoral Council encouraged all parishioners to devote their time, unwavering hope and the burning desire to making the celebration a success and to seeing God’s Word take root in the Ashongman community.

Tributes also went to the founding priests from Queen of Peace Parish, Madina, Rev. Fr. Mouldes and the late Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Dominic Andoh, for giving his blessing and support for the establishment of the church.

The year-round celebration has the theme “The Good News of Jesus Christ; celebrating our past, committing to the future”.

Some of the activities for the yearlong celebrations include health promotion exercise within the Ashongman community, a night of hymns, a program of Praise and worship, memorial service for all departed members of the church, heritage day, photo gallery, children quiz, special days of celebration for all men, women, and the youth/ children, an open day with the Priests and the Archbishop, retreats, homecoming for former priests, seminarians, and old parishioners.

The climax of the anniversary will be in November 2020 where the church will be dedicated by the Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie.

As part of the celebrations, a LOGO COMPETITION has kick-started, especially for the youth of the parish to partake in the celebration by designing the 25th Anniversary official logo which will be used for all activities. The winner will be awarded a special prize.
