In the days of St. John Bosco, he had a vision and in the vision he saw a ship on the sea. He saw two pillars or anchors: the Blessed Sacrament on one pillar and the portrait of Mary on the other.
These two pillars or anchors held the ship firm against the storm or anytime it is sinking. Don Bosco, explained that the ship is the Church. The two pillars holding the Church are Jesus and
Mary. Anytime the church is wobbling or is not stable Jesus and Mary hold it firm. It follows that anytime the Church is in battle or is facing an attack we must call upon Jesus and Mary to come to our aid.
At the battle of Lepanto, the battle was won by the church through prayers especially the prayer of the rosary and calling on Mary our Mother to intercede for us.
If Adam failed us, Jesus never fails. If Eve failed us, Mary never fails.
During the time of Joshua, he conquered Jericho with the Ark of God’s covenant carried by the priests and they went round Jericho seven times on the 7th day. The walls of Jericho fell and there was a new beginning for the Israelites. God created something new for them.
The Ark of the covenant is very important in the lives of the people of God. It is God’s presence among his people. Since Mary is the New Ark of the Covenant we cannot go into any battle without her. Luke, alludes to Mary being the Ark of the Covenant in the story of the Visitation (Lk 1:39-56).
Mary, who had conceived Jesus, runs to Ain Karim the village of Elizabeth and Zechariah to cause joy. In fact, it was Jesus in her womb who caused the joy. Mary therefore carries God to the house of Zechariah. It was not surprising to hear Elizabeth say, ‘who am I that the Mother of my Lord should come to me’.
Luke concludes by saying, Mary spent three months in the house of Zechariah. By this, Luke alludes to when the Ark of the Covenant stayed in the house of Obed-edom for three months and blessed Obed-edom.( 2Sam 6:11-12). In summary, Mary is the New Ark of the Covenant who carries Jesus.
So, it holds true that Jesus and Mary are closely connected and cannot be separated. The only thing that separates them is divinity.
Furthermore, in Rev.11: 19, John says, he saw the Ark of God in the heavenly Temple. So, if Mary is now the New Ark of the Covenant she cannot be here. She is obviously in heaven among the host of heaven.
However, together with Jesus, Mary helps us to battle with our adversary, the devil who has been thrown down to earth. Hence, Rev. 12, the woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and with 12 stars around her head could be identified with Mary, the Mother Jesus and the Mother of the Church.
Now, in that story, Michael, whose name means who is like God comes to lead the battle to defeat the devil. We can say that, in this battle God himself fought through the Archangel Michael. Indeed, if God fights he does not lose. It follows that Jesus, who is God never loses any battle. Therefore, Jesus, who is God symbolised in Rev. 12 by Michael and Mary, the woman crowned with twelve stars have power over any principality or force against the Church and God’s people in this era.
The implications of the above is that the Church and her faithful, apart from the safety or human measures taken to combat the coronavirus must pray hard and call on Jesus and Mary our pillars to come to fight the coronavirus and any form of attacks. We must all follow the call of the Pope and our bishops to pray and fast. We can pray with the Blessed Sacrament over places where there is this attack just as is being done elsewhere. The ministerial priests just like the priests at the time of Joshua can go around God’s people with the Blessed Sacrament to fight this deadly virus. The whole church must keep adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and pray the Rosary than before. The entire people of God must invite Michael to lead the battle. In fact, this season, the season of Lent is the acceptable time, the time of salvation to pray and fast more to combat this deadly virus. In the long run God will manifest his Glory. This is our faith.
