As part of activities to earmark the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi, the Holy Father Pope Francis has conferred honours upon 21 individuals within the Diocese for their immense contribution towards the growth of the Catholic faith in a picturesque celebration at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Cathedral on November 30, 2019.
The ceremony was graced by Msgr. Pavol Talapka, Charge D’affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana who represented the Holy father to confer the awards on the individuals.
Addressing the faithful and awardees present at the ceremony, Msgr. Pavol Talapka encouraged the awardees to deepen their commitment with an extraordinary service to the church even after the recognition.
“By conferment of these awards, the Catholic Church through the Holy Father Pope Francis wishes to recognize with gratitude your dedicated and extraordinary service and your generosity of mind and heart in sharing your many gifts and talents to build up the local Church and most of all your witness to Christ in the practice of your faith”, he added.
He further reiterated that “this recognition and honour given to you is accompanied with great challenge and a mission for each one of you to keep deeply your faith in God and also strengthen the faith of others and be true witnesses to Christ as by your pure testimony of hope and helping others in need and to give yourself unconditionally to the service of our brothers and sisters.”
Of the 21 individuals who were conferred with the Papal Awards, 2 priests received the honor of monsignors, 4 were named Knights/Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great, 6 named Knights/Dames of the Order of St. Sylvester, 7 received the Croce pro ecclesia et pontifice and 2 also received the Benemerenti medal.
The Diocese will climax the Golden Jubilee celebration at the Star of the Sea Cathedral in Takoradi on December 8, 2019.
