Season of love and charity, POP set to reach out to street children

A season of love and charity is once again here. As we await the coming of our Lord, we try to share in every way, what we have with our family and friends in celebration to receive the one and only true King. We share this love not only among those we know, but also with those we know not.

Hence, the Parish Youth Council (P.Y.C) of The Prince of Peace Catholic Church, as part of its annual activities in December, is engaging in a charity work to touch the lives of others.

This year, we are reaching out to the children on the street, whose lives depend on the help they get from strangers. We want to affect the lives of these kids with a smile and show them that we care.

This event will take place on 26th December 2020, which is also “boxing day”, at 9am.

This year’s activity is dubbed “One Parishioner, One Street Child” where each parishioner is expected to feed a child. They have a target of about 500 children within the outskirts of the church, in and around Kwashieman, Abeka-lapaz, Nyamekye and Darkuman.

The theme for this event is picked from proverbs 19: 17 “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord and he will reward him for what he has done.”

Recounting some activities in the past years, the Council visited the inmates of Nsawam Prison as well as Kressner Children Home to perform its benevolent duty.

While the PYC goes out to perform some of these generous events, it does not forget about its home, the church. As it is said “charity begins at home”. Internally, we focus on giving hampers and some goodies to the aged and sick parishioners.

The Council therefore encourages as many that are desirous to support this project to donate at least GH 15.00 per street child to aid in the provision of food, drinks and souvenirs for these children.

Donations can be sent in kind or cash to the church before 24th December, 2020. For those who wish to send their contributions via mobile money, the Council’s MTN MOMO number 0247686081 with reference name CHARITY, is also available.

Let’s us all remember that “Jesus is the reason for the season”
Merry Christmas to you all!
