The Parish Priest of St Peter Claver Parish, in the Catholic Diocese of Nnewichi, Nnewi, Rev Fr Edmund Nwagbara in the early hours of Saturday November 16, 2019 lost his life to a fire outbreak in his residence, according to a statement issued by, Martin Onwudiwe, Director of Communications of the Diocese.
Confirming the situation, Haruna Muhammed, Anambra State Police Command stated in a statement that, the cause of the fire was not yet known and the affected part of the Church are residential building.
He further revealed that, the nature of the inferno was so severe that the priest was burnt beyond recognition inside his room at the Church premises.
Firsthand information given by bystanders indicates that, other priests in the residence escaped unhurt, but the deceased priest was not so lucky as the door of his room did not open.
