New Religious Congregation in Gabon Receives Blessings from Local Ordinary

A newly formed congregation of religious women in Gabon has received blessings from the Bishop of Mouila diocese, Mathieu Madega Lebouakehan who has encouraged spiritual and material support for the nuns.

“We have the mission to support the congregation with our prayers, morally and materially,” Bishop Lebouakehan said September 17 while presiding over Eucharistic celebration in recognition of the new order of nuns.

“Our God expects a lot from this new community that is being born in the footsteps of the foundress of the Sisters of the Rosary, Elizabeth Giraud,” the Gabonese Bishop said.

The new congregation is being founded by Sr. Annie Patricia and Sr. Marie Elodie, previously members of the Most Holy Rosary.

This follow a yearlong retreat at Our Lady of Angels (Notre Dame des Anges) in Gabon’s capital, Libreville during which the duo had time to reflect and envision their life journey.

The sisters renewed their vows and were formally presented to the diocese of Mouila as sisters of the “Community of the Sisters of the Rosary of Gabon” (Communauté des Sœurs du Rosaire du Gabon), the official name of their new congregation.

The motto of the congregation is “Through Mary to Jesus.”
