The St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Juapong on Sunday, 29th December, 2019 climaxed it’s maiden Homecoming and Honours Day celebrations.
The celebration which coincided with the feast of Holy family was used to honor some elderly people in the church who contributed in diverse ways to the growth and development of the church.
The three-day Homecoming event started on Friday December 27, 2019 with an arrival and welcoming ceremony. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Agboli together with the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Church, Mr. Johnson Akpoh and Mrs. Rose Tugli welcomed Paishioners from the ‘diaspora’ back home with the Youth President, John Bosco Ankutse lighting a bonfire to officially open the ceremony.
On Saturday December 28, parishioners, both home and away from the Parish’s geographical location embarked on a health walk through the Principal streets of Juapong and ended it up with fun games.
Later in the evening, a Memorial Mass was held in honour of all departed souls of the church. During a brief meeting with the Parish Priest and the Church Committee, the Youth and the Church Committee discussed the pressing needs of the church and ways to help tackle those needs.
A thanksgiving Mass was held on Sunday to climax the celebration. During the Mass, the first batch of some deserving elders were presented with citations in appreciation for their hard work over the years that has brought the church this far.
In the homily Rev. Fr. Vincent Agboli has challenged the congregation to cling unto unity as the day is the feast of Holy Family. He asked families to remain united and by extension the church, which is seen as a bigger family.
After the Thanksgiving Mass, there was a Holy Family feast and merrymaking.
The Parish Priest and the Head Christian were full of appreciation for the Youth for organizing the program
