Church Administrators, Secretaries urged to be more effective

Administrators and Secretaries of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra have been challenged to exhibit high level of effective communication and time management in their day to day functions.

Mrs. Cecilia Quartey, a Chartered Secretary and a retired Administrator said “communication is important in every aspect of life and especially at the work place, because when things are not well understood, work does not go on properly”. She added that “Secretaries, who are the custodians of our documents and oil our work places, need to communicate properly”.

Mrs. Quartey made these comments at a one-day Office Management Training for Secretaries and Administrators on Saturday, August 24,2019 at the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT), Accra, under the direction of the Business and Faith Development Center (BFDC) of the university.

Participants, who were mostly Secretaries and Administrators from most parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, were taken through what communication is, how effective communication is done and the expectations of effective communication. Mrs. Quartey, who was the facilitator for this program further added “there is a realization of wastage with regards to the use of time and it is only when we manage ourselves that we can be able to manage time”. She therefore called on the participants to manage themselves effectively to ensure proper time management.

Participants present were taken through practical situations they can adopt to manage themselves and then improve on their time management, to make them more effective and efficient at their work place.

Secretaries and Administrators present expressed delight and appreciation of the program and asked that it is repeated for them at least twice a year.

Mr. Wilbert Tangey, Director of BFDC, CIBT, in his response to the call by the participants stated that the university will be introducing a Professional Certificate course in secretariatship beginning from November 2019. This course, Mr. Tengey said will be an intensive ten (10) week Saturday only program at a very moderate rate. Practicing and would be Secretaries are encouraged to contact the CIBT for more information.
