Caritas Ghana donates to support ‘Kayayei’ and Persons with disabilities

Today 26th August, 2020, the Humanitarian Support Team of Caritas Ghana began dispatching goods worth over GHC430,000.00 to the four Archdioceses (Provinces) in Ghana (Accra, Cape Coast, Kumasi & Tamale).

About 800 indigent poor whose livelihood conditions have been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic are expected to benefit from this package. These include displaced female Head Porters (Kayayee) from the cities, Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable populations.

Caritas Ghana is implementing the humanitarian support aspects of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference Covid-19 Response Plan. The Humanitarian support package include food ration, temporary shelter materials like mats and blankets, Health and Sanitation materials for some rural health facilities.

Caritas Ghana is grateful to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development at the Vatican and Caritas Internationalis for the generous support that has enabled us to reach out to the poor.

This is part of interventions being supported from 99,785.56 Euros grant that Caritas Ghana benefitted from the Caritas Internationalis Covid-19 Response Fund (CI CRF).

The Caritas Ghana Humanitarian Response Team was led by Rev. Sr. Regina Ignatia Aflah, HDR. Executive Secretary of Caritas Ghana, Mr. Samuel Zan Akologo has expressed joy at the progress being made to reach out to the poor in a more personal way.
