Called and sent: Meet the women serving God through washing clothes

In Christianity, ministry is an activity carried out by Christians to express or spread their faith, the prototype being the Great Commission. The Encyclopedia of Christianity defines it as “carrying forth Christ’s mission in the world”, indicating that it is “conferred on each Christian in baptism.

For many of today’s Christian, ministry is standing in public transport or other public spaces and preaching. For others, it is about dedicating their God given talent of voice to sing at Church and nothing else.

These women of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa -Burkina have a different definition of ministry. They have dedicated more than seven years of their lives washing cassocks among others of their priests at no cost.

Then priest in charge of the St. Dominic community, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe who shared what could be described as an incredible act of service in the house of God said for the past seven years of his stay at Taifa as priest in charge some seven women dedicated their time and energy to washing their clothes.

He narrated that these great women of faith pray together before every session and basically baths with the soapy water because they believe the water had healing prowess.

“For over seven years, these wonderful women, who are also parishioners, have always washed the clothes of the priests at the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa. Every, and I mean every Wednesday, they come here to do our laundry for us at no cost! It is amazing the faith they have in this apostolate”.

“They pray before and after each session and you can imagine what they do with the soapy water sometimes.
Simple as they are, they have contributed greatly to our comfortability here in the “Diocese” of Taifa!
May the Lord bless them and keep them safe. May they have long lives and good health. And may they never lack any blessing,” he said.
