Apostleship of the Sea to hold first human development seminar

Apostleship of the Sea, Ghana would tomorrow November 29, 2019 hold its first human development seminar on the topicglobal action programme against forced labor and human trafficking of fishers at sea” at the Regional Maritime university auditorium.

The seminar aims at creating the platform for actors in the maritime sector to discuss and share experiences on forced labor and human trafficking at sea and expected to create awareness on dangers faced by fishermen and seafarers,  promote discussions on the various forms of human trafficking and forced labor associated with working at sea and also to identify programs that can be employed to curtail forced labor and human trafficking.

The event would discuss topical areas such as understanding forced labor and human trafficking, statistics of people trapped in forced labor and human trafficking, the effect of forced labor on the fisheries sector and a look at the main legal instruments to combat forced labor and human trafficking in the fishing industry.

Participants would be given the opportunity to ask questions after presentations and discussions by stakeholders in the maritime industry from a legal, security, political, economic, humanitarian and psycho-social perspective.

The seminar forms part of activities lined up for November geared towards the centenary celebration of Apostleship of the Sea which was launched on October 22, 2019.
