A MAN IS NOT DEAD WHILE HIS NAME IS STILL SPOKEN: An Eulogy to the Memory of the Late Chairman Rawlings!

In the famed film, Forever Us, a pathologist by name Dr. Henry Morgan remarkly said, “A man is not dead while his name is still spoken. We are only truly gone when we’ve disappeared from the memories of those who loved us. A great artist never dies as long as his books are read, and his paintings admired. As long as our songs are sang, we may, each of us, live forever.”

This cannot be expressed better. When great men die, their works don’t die with them. Though their good deeds follow them to the yonder world, their memories linger on, among the living.

Such great men as Jerry John Rawlings etch their names in the annals of world history. Their acts of charity and humaneness remain forever on the hearts of the beneficiaries. There, on those rickety hearts, time and death erase nothing.

An example from Sacred Scripture will do: In the Acts of the Apostles (9:36-43), we read of a certain widow, Tabitha, whose life was full of good deeds and charitable acts. Even when she died, her name was still being pronounced by the widows for whom she devoted time, energy and resources sewing tunics and garments. No wonder she had to be raised from death immediately.

We too will be raised up on the last day and be granted the timeless gift of immortality when our earthly lives are replete with works of selflessness. Because, a man is not dead while his name is still spoken. We are only truly gone when we have disappeared from the memories of those who loved us. A great artist never dies as long as his books are read, and his paintings admired. As long as our songs are sang, we may, each of us, live forever!!! May JJ Rawlings live forever. Amen!
